Provenance
Bought on Amazon (order 112-8295829-4169062, placed 8 June 2026, $29.76, sold by Amazon.com, shipped to 601 Delaware) as a reading/reference copy; accessioned as HH-BOOK-2026-0030. This is the copy photographed for the library cover image. Distinct from the signed, inscribed softcover David L. Peché gifted the curator on the 13 June 2026 Peché family tour, which is catalogued separately as HH-LIB-2026-0027 (accession HH-BOOK-2026-0027).
Why it matters
Indirect but real H&H relevance, through the Menger Hotel. The book features San Antonio’s historic hotels prominently — including the Menger Hotel, the anchor of the Menger family whose coffee-side branch built and ran the 601 Delaware plant (the hotel founder William A. Menger is the grandfather of the H&H Menger generation). A well-illustrated hotel history is useful comparative and contextual material for that line and the Menger Hotel coffee thread. The book’s author, David L. Peché, is the project’s living Peché-family source (his Downtown San Antonio carries his father Manuel Peché’s first-person H&H account).
Open questions
- Does the Menger Hotel chapter name or picture anything tied to the Menger coffee family or to H&H? A close read of the Menger Hotel pages would settle this.
