San Antonio Nexapa

Not a San Antonio, Texas source. Despite the title, this is a first-person memoir of an American family’s coffee-and-cacao finca (“San Antonio Nexapa”) at the foot of Mt. Tacana in the Soconusco region of Chiapas, Mexico — a place name, not the Texas city. Names, institutions, and daily life on the plantation are documented in a readable narrative rather than a footnoted academic study, but the “San Antonio” in the title has no connection to San Antonio, Texas.

Relevance to H&H

Resolved (2026-07-22). Google Books has digitized the University of Texas copy (id -6pVAAAAMAAJ, digitized 2008) with full-text search. A search inside for “Hoffmann” and “Hayman” returns no results for either — consistent with the book having nothing to do with San Antonio, Texas or the H&H company. The collection’s holding is a signed first edition (HH-LIB-2015-0001), whose own entry already correctly identifies the Chiapas setting; its value to H&H research, if any, is only as upstream Mexican-origin supply-chain context (the region historically supplied Texas-bound green coffee), not as a source that names the company.
